Muscat: Following the Khareef Digital Championship and Oman Digital Championship, both managed by Oman Automobile Association, two winners came out on top to compete in the Middle East and North African (MENA) Digital Final that will take place this Thursday and Friday.
The contestants have traveled to Jordan for the competition with a larger number of participants attending, compared to the previous season.
Digital Motorsports Manager of OAA, Masoud Al Hinai said: “At last year’s event, the atmosphere and preparation in Jordan was perfectly managed and this year’s winners of the national digital championships proved how hard they worked since their performance in the past.”
This being their second held championship, the Final in Jordan will be accommodating participants from all over the Middle East and North Africa, competing against each other at a professional level.
According to Masoud, the challenges on the simulators are done fairly due to contestants having the same equipment and that all it takes to win is practice and skills. Wasif Al Kharousy, who ranked first in the championship in Oman, said: “Honestly, each year the competition series gets tougher but the organisation of the events gets even better.”
The 17-year-old added: “This is my second MENA Digital Championship and I’m really excited and looking forward to it. I will give it my all to make my country proud.”
The second-place winner, Mohammed Al Barwani, 34, said: “This is a great step forward for simulator racing within our region. This isn’t my first time competing in Jordan and from my previous visit, the experience was lovely with the great people who were very welcoming, making it feel like a second home to me.
“This time however, as I have been practicing on the Gran Turismo games every single day, I know I am ready and will perform my best to the end.”
The MENA Digital Final is hosted by Jordan Motorsport (JMS) to attract young racers and video game enthusiasts to attend the event from across the region. Each country is represented by two contestants who are selected either through their national championship qualifiers or as their country nominees.
