The School of Continuing Studies now offers beginners’ courses online in Modern Standard Arabic, French, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. In this virtual online classroom format, each weekly two-hour class is held live, online with your instructor and up to ten fellow students. Learners meet in this virtual classroom through our easy-to-use interactive, online webinar platform and course learning platform called Blackboard. You have all the benefits of a collaborative and interactive group learning experience from the comfort of your home, office or wherever you have access to the internet. You’ll be able to watch and listen to your instructor, ask questions, and join your classmates for discussion. Email is used to submit assignments and to receive feedback. Extra practice and review is available at any time via replay of the class for your convenience.
In Spanish, we also offer another kind of online course called a virtual tutorial that provides the fullest flexibility of online learning while offering the assurance of access to your instructor and classmates. The course is flexible because you can access materials, do online activities and exercises, and watch instructor on video at any time. Your learning schedule is based on your own needs. However, you also have access to your instructor and up to four other learners during an interactive tutorial that takes place five times during the ten-week
course. Email is used to submit assignments and to receive feedback.
The School of Continuing Studies’ Translation program makes its courses accessible online in a field that truly spans the globe. Depending on the language, we offer online or self-study (Distance PDF) courses wherever you live and work. These courses allow you as a bilingual person to take charge of your own learning experience and adapt your studies to a busy schedule. Our online courses help your translation skills bridge distances and open borders.
