The formation and implementation of collaborative agenda is led by three media: structure, process and participants. Based on B325 material, discuss each media and identify which media was mostly used and how it was used by the organizations in the article to embrace, empower, involve and monitor members. How does Bronte present Wuthering Heights as a ‘crossover’ novel between romanticism and realism? What are the features of her leading male and female characters that defy the ideal model of romantic heroism? How does the ending of the novel serve in further distancing the novel from the romantic norm?
Finally, as a reader, what are your reflections on the novel? Would you have preferred a classical or realistic ending? Do think that such a cross racial relationship would have stood a chance in a conservative Victorian society?

This assignment, which is made up of five tasks relates to your study of E303B Book 3 (Getting Practical: Evaluating everyday texts) and the readings and activities associated with it. It represents 20% of the overall continuous assessment score (or OCAS).
The overall objective of this TMA is to assess your skills of critical evaluation and argument on the basis of grammatical evidence.
You are required to write no more than 1,000 words, but you will also need to present some of your findings in graphical or tabular form. Please indicate at the end of your essay the number of words you have used.
Before you start this assignment, refer to the general guidance on completing and submitting your assignments on page 41 in the course guide booklet that you have received with the package.


Important notes:
1. Your chosen composition texts MUST be approved and signed by your tutor before you start working on them to make sure they are the proper ones for the TMA, otherwise your TMA will not be accepted.
2. In an appendix, attach a photocopy or a printout of the two approved and signed texts you used for analysis.
3. You should write an introduction to the TMA at the very beginning of the page on which you begin doing your TMA. Also, you should write a conclusion to the whole TMA at the end in which you sum up what you have done in this TMA and state your own evaluation and opinion of what you have done.




• Task 1 (selection of text)
Choose two poorly written English compositions/essays written by Arab students who are not native speakers of English at the AOU preferably in the EL111 or El112 courses. Each one should be 100-150 words. Your tutor may also provide you with the texts which are well chosen and suitable for analysis in this TMA.
You should expect to spend a reasonable amount of time selecting your texts, as your choice of text will potentially affect the quality of your answer. Do not be afraid to reject your initial choice if you come across something better, since you will inevitably have gained insights from the process of selection. However, you need to remember to leave yourself enough time to spend on the analysis of your chosen text.
• Task 2 (initial evaluation of text’s weaknesses)
Read the poorly written texts several times and decide whether their weaknesses lie primarily in the way they have constructed interpersonal, textual or experiential meanings. You need to consider here the grammatical choices in relation to the context of use of the texts; in other words, to their:


• Field (for example, is the choice of lexis sufficiently technical and specialised or suitably commonplace and accessible?)
• Tenor (for example, does the lexicogrammar construct appropriate social roles and status for both writer and speaker?)
• Mode (for example, do the lexical and grammatical choices construe a well organised and structured text consistent with the mode and goal of the piece of writing or do they, for example, make the text too formal?)
• Audience, i.e. the readers the texts address: general or specialist readers.
At this stage of the assignment you will only be developing an impression of the text’s overall patterns and weaknesses rather than carrying out a systematic analysis. You do not need to submit the notes that you make at this stage.


• Task 3 (detailed analysis of text)
(You may write up to 500 words on this part of the assignment, but you will also need to present some of your findings in graphical or tabular form.)
You now need to decide on one or two specific areas of grammar to focus on in order to carry out a comprehensive and systematic analysis. You should select those areas which you think will provide most insight into the text’s problems and which account for its lack of high level of communicative effectiveness. For example, you may think the grammar is construing an inappropriate tenor, with the writer sounding too chatty and friendly. You would then need to carry out a comprehensive analysis of key language features associated with tenor (e.g. pronoun use, ellipsis, speech function, colloquial lexis, contraction, forms of address, stance etc.). (On the issue of colloquial lexis, consult a good dictionary which shows judgements on formal and informal usage. Do not pass this kind of judgement without the help of a specialist or dictionary.)
You may, on other hand, decide that the main problem with each text is its lack of overall structure and therefore decide to analyse patterns of theme choice, including hyper- and macro- theme.
You will need to display the findings of your analysis in a way that is meaningful to your tutor. How precisely you do this is your decision and will, to an extent, depend on the technology you have at your disposal. For example you may use formatting or colour to underline or highlight certain choices within the text. You may also present your findings in table form and give counts of each finding.


• Task 4 (re-writing of text)
Based on the findings of your analysis, rewrite each text to make it more effective in the specific areas of grammar and lexis that you focused on.


• Task 5 (evaluation of re-writing)
(You should write at least 500 words on this part of the assignment, excluding your re-written text.)
Describe the nature of the changes you made, why you made them and how effective you think they are in improving the communicative effect of the texts. You must explain both the inappropriateness of the original texts and the replacements/revisions which you introduced to each.

We often take our knowledge of famous people for granted. However, the process of reputation construction is far from being a simple and straightforward process. We often neglect consciously or unconsciously the basis of the reputation and do little to investigate the sources and accuracy of reputations. Taking Cleopatra, the last Ptolemaic queen of Egypt, as a case study, you are required to read the excerpt on Cleopatra’s reputation construction below to build your understanding of the complexity of the theme of reputation before embarking on more readings that would help you address the subthemes numbered 1-5 that follow:
In our search for Cleopatra we try to be objective and say that we are approaching the ancient material with an eye to simply extracting the truth about what really happened, but in practice this is harder than it sounds. We are all so imbued with our own values that they tend to creep in even when we are determined to shut them out, and the concept of ‘truth’ or the ‘facts’ is notoriously slippery. On the one hand we have so few ‘facts’ from the ancient world, and on the other we have different versions of the truth… Our explorations of the past do have meaning. What we bring to the past can cast it in a new light and help to bring out aspects of that history that have previously remained in the shadows, or been deliberately distorted in the explorations of those who have gone before us…

AOU is planning to create a student recruitment system to keep information about the graduate
students from all faculties, details of the companies registered, available job vacancies, available trainings etc. All seven branches graduate students’ data need to be stored. Each
student is identified by their student ID and other details to be stored are name, DOB, major, year graduated, GPA, email address and the branch name. The branch details to be stored are
the branch name, contact person, email address, and telephone number. The contact person
could be the head of student affairs. AOU would receive lots of job offering from different
companies contracted with. There is dedicated staff in AOU to contact with the companies, the
staff details are Staff_ID, name and email Address. The company details to be stored are
Company ID, name, sector (such as banking, oil and gas, insurance etc.), country, contact
person, email address and telephone. The job vacancies are identified by Job_ID and other
details are description, contract type and remuneration. Companies also announce the training
availability for students, the details to be stored are TrainingID, description, StartDate and
EndDate. Students can apply for available training one at a time. Students can apply for more
than one job at a time based on their specialization. If a job or training is applied by a student, the system should keep track of the updates and alert through email to the AOU’s assigned
recruitment staff and the applicant. The update details to be stored are Date of application, job_ID, TrainingID, student ID and branch name. Duration of the training sessions are for less
than six months. Only the assigned person is allowed to contact with the students and
companies regarding the application and registration. Give a conceptual data model (CDM) for this application using the Entity-Relationship model, including the complete E-R diagram, the entity types and any required constraints and assumptions.

التليفون المحمول ليس ابتكاراً علمياً مذهلاً فحسب، ولكنه من أهم تقنيات القرن الحادي والعشرين. وطبقا للإحصائيات نجد أن عدداً كبيراً جداً من أبناء شعبنا يستخدمون هذه الأجهزة وإن الزيادة في استخدامها زاد من إنشاء المحطات القاعدية اللازمة لها، والتي عادة ما توضع فوق أسطح المنازل، أو فوق أبراج بث خاصة بها.
ولقد صاحب انتشار هذا النوع من التليفونات ومحطاته عدد كبير من الدراسات والأبحاث التي تشير إلى الأضرار الصحية الناجمة عن هذه المعدات، والأضرار الناجمة عن استخدام هذا التليفون ودوره في تلوث الوسط المحيط بالموجات الكهرومغناطيسية والتطرق إلى بعض المعايير العامة لمحاولة تجنب أو التقليل بقدر الامكان من هذه الأضرار، والتي يجب اتباعها طبقاً للمعايير الدولية في هذا المجال، وتوضيح الاستخدام الآمن لها وذلك بهدف توعية المواطن بهذه الأضرار وإمكانية تلافيها.
أكتب تقرير من حوالي 1000 إلى 1200 كلمة موضحا هذا الموضوع.

تعتبر مشكلات الوعي الصوتي ((Phonological awareness والذي يقصد به قدرة الطفل على إدراك أن الكلمة التي يسمعها تتكون من أصوات فردية تكّون أو تشّكل تلك الكلمة، فكلمة (راس) مثلا تتكون من ثلاثة أصوات،،، أحد أهم المشكلات التي تنذر بوجود صعوبات القراءة في وقت لاحق، وقد تزايدت البحوث العلمية في السنوات القليلة الماضية التي تدعم هذا الافتراض.. والطفل الذي لا يمتلك الوعي الصوتي لن يدرك بأن الكلمة الواحدة تتكون من عدة أصوات ولن يكون قادرا على فصل أصوات الكلمة، أو تحديد عدد الأصوات في الكلمة الواحدة. ولا يستطيع هؤلاء الطلبة فهم أو استخدام المبادئ الأساسية المطلوبة لفك رموز الكلمات، مثلا عند تكرار مقطع صوتي معين في عدة كلمات ( مثل: قام، قال، قاد، قاع). ولهذا فإن مشكلات الوعي الصوتي والمعالجة الصوتية ترتبط بشكل كبير مع مشكلات القراءة، فالطفل الذي لا يدرك تلك المبادئ لن يكون قادرا على ترجمة الكلام المطبوع أو المكتوب الى أصوات لغوية أثناء عملية القراءة. في ضوء ذلك وضّح العلاقة بين الوعي الصوتي الفونولوجي بالعسر القرائي (الدسلكسيا) مستعيناً بذلك بالمراجع العلمية الحديثة.

تعتبر مشكلات الوعي الصوتي ((Phonological awareness والذي يقصد به قدرة الطفل على إدراك أن الكلمة التي يسمعها تتكون من أصوات فردية تكّون أو تشّكل تلك الكلمة، فكلمة (راس) مثلا تتكون من ثلاثة أصوات،،، أحد أهم المشكلات التي تنذر بوجود صعوبات القراءة في وقت لاحق، وقد تزايدت البحوث العلمية في السنوات القليلة الماضية التي تدعم هذا الافتراض.. والطفل الذي لا يمتلك الوعي الصوتي لن يدرك بأن الكلمة الواحدة تتكون من عدة أصوات ولن يكون قادرا على فصل أصوات الكلمة، أو تحديد عدد الأصوات في الكلمة الواحدة. ولا يستطيع هؤلاء الطلبة فهم أو استخدام المبادئ الأساسية المطلوبة لفك رموز الكلمات، مثلا عند تكرار مقطع صوتي معين في عدة كلمات ( مثل: قام، قال، قاد، قاع). ولهذا فإن مشكلات الوعي الصوتي والمعالجة الصوتية ترتبط بشكل كبير مع مشكلات القراءة، فالطفل الذي لا يدرك تلك المبادئ لن يكون قادرا على ترجمة الكلام المطبوع أو المكتوب الى أصوات لغوية أثناء عملية القراءة. في ضوء ذلك وضّح العلاقة بين الوعي الصوتي الفونولوجي بالعسر القرائي (الدسلكسيا) مستعيناً بذلك بالمراجع العلمية الحديثة.

تعتبر الصعوبات النمائية هى المسئولة بدرجة كبيرة فى حدوث صعوبات التعلم ، كما تعتبر عمليات تشخيصها وعلاجها من القضايا الهامة والتي لم تصل فيها جهود العلماء إلى نتائج حاسمة – تناول هذه العبارة بالشرح من خلال المراجع والعربية والأجنبية التى اهتمت بها على المستوي الفسيولوجي والمعرفي والنفسي والتربوي موضحا ما يلي :-
1- مفهوم الصعوبات النمائية ( الفسيولوجي ، والمعرفي ، والنفسي ، والتربوي ) . (خمس درجات )

المطلوب ما يأتي:

يعد السلوك العدواني أحد الخصائص التي يتصف بها الأطفال المضطربين سلوكيا، كما أنه ينتشر بين الأطفال المعاقين أكثر من انتشاره بين الأطفال العاديين. ومن هذا المنطلق فقد انصب اهتمام الباحثين على دراسته باعتبار أن النتائج المترتبة عليه تعد أكثر خطرا على المجتمع من النتائج المترتبة على نتائج السلوكيات الأخرى التي يتصف بها الأطفال المضطربين سلوكيا وانفعاليا. في مقالة من خمس عشرة صفحة تحدث عن السلوك العدواني من حيث تعريفه، ومظاهره، وأسبابه، وقياسه وتشخيصه، وأساليب ضبطه.

To in-depth your understanding, you will discover the Wi-Fi network in this question through real practical measurement. Therefore, you should install the Wi-Fi network discovery tool inSSIDer using the setup file attached to the TMA. Relevant information related to this software can be found in its homepage (i.e., MetaGeek - Optimize Your Wireless Environment). For being able to answer to the following questions, you should install and run the software on your mobile device. We recommend that you use laptop having Microsoft Windows as operating system and connected to the network through Wi-Fi.

تمثل النظرية بشكل عام مجموعة من الافتراضات المناسبة والمترابطة بطريقة منظمة تهدف الى فهم وتفسير ظاهرة معينة من اجل فهمها والتنبؤ بها وضبطها اذا امكن ذلك، ومن هذه النظريات نظرية التحليل النفسي والنظرية السلوكية والاتجاه المعرفي في الارشاد والعلاج النفسي،،، في ورقة علمية من خمس صفحات وضّح الفروق بين هذه النظريات الثلاث وتطبيقاتها العملية على ارشاد أسر ذوي الإعاقات.
الموضوع الثاني : (10 درجات)
تترك الإعاقة جملة من الآثار النفسية والاجتماعية على إخوة الطفل ذي الاعاقة، وتحدثت الكثير من الأدبيات المعاصرة عن هذه الآثار بالتفصيل، في ورقة علمية من خمس صفحات بيّن الاثار التي تتركها الإعاقة على إخوة الطفل ذي الاعاقة، ووضّح الدور الملقى على الوالدين للتخفيف من حدة هذه الاثار ومساعدتهم على تقبل إعاقة أخيهم.

EL 120: English Phonetics and Linguistics

This TMA has two parts. You should answer BOTH questions in two separate essays each in about 400 words. Each essay will be marked out of 10 points.


Question 1:


Learning the description of consonants and vowels helps you to pronounce English sounds correctly and thus improves your spoken English. State how we describe English consonants and vowels. Start by explaining how letters differ from sounds, and how consonants differ from vowels. Support your answers with examples.

Prosody is a feature of human spoken language. Define what prosody is; and clarify the three main components of prosody. Support your answers with examples.
