Dhofar: To enhance biodiversity and provide an accurate database, the Office for Conservation of Environment (OCE) at the Diwan of Royal Court is conducting winter surveys on the numbers of steppe eagles in the Governorate of Dhofar until March 2022.
The steppe eagle is an endangered bird of prey that spends the winter in southern Arabia, especially in the Sultanate of Oman, Yemen and Saudi Arabia, while the summer in Central Asia.
In the first week of the surveys, nearly 200 eagles were recorded in the north-east of the Wilayat of Thumrait in the Dhofar Governorate.
The environmental project is conducted in cooperation with the Omani Environment Society, the British-Omani Friendship Society, and a number of international organizations interested in this type of bird.
