The Department of Criminal Inquiries and Investigations of ROP has warned people of a new fraudulent method using the one-time password (OTP).
Fraudsters would call the victims to announce that they won a voucher from one of the major commercial centers known in the Sultanate, which require them to mention an OTP number that they received through SMS. The OTP is used for making electronic purchases.
ROP urged people not to respond to such calls and handle the verification numbers with caution.
