We Love Oman: Treat yourself to dolphin watching in Musandam

Musandam is known for its rich marine life and is also known for dolphins that can be seen from the shores and is considered an ideal location for dolphin watching.

As the best time to go is between the months of September and April, when the weather is a lot milder, this is the right time to visit the island for an unforgettable experience.

One of the most intelligent animals known to man, dolphins, are found off the coast of Oman and  regular tours are organised by operators in Oman. Apart from Musandam, Muscat and Dimaniyat are also popular for dolphin watching.
The best way to enjoy Musandam is by sea. On your next trip north, book a dolphin watching dhow cruise to visit, snorkel on remote beaches, and watch dolphins play.

According to Oman’s Ministry of Tourism, “Dolphin shoals visit the shores of Oman in large numbers. Muscat and Musandam are famous for dolphin watching, although this pastime is also widespread in A’Sharqiyah South Governorate and Al Wasta Governorate, in addition to Dhofar Governorate.

“The types of dolphins that visit Oman are: Indian Ocean dolphins, the Indo-Pacific Humpback dolphins, Risso’s dolphins, Common Bottlenose dolphins, Indo-Pacific Bottlenose dolphins, Rough-toothed dolphins, Pantropical Spotted dolphins, Striped dolphins, Spinner dolphins, and Long-Beaked Common dolphins”.

Apart from watching the dolphins you also have the chance to view the scenic beauty of Oman’s coastline and experience the breaktaking views of some of its landmarks.

The Musandam Peninsula is located on the northern border of the Sultanate of Oman. The high mountains in this region rise more than two thousand metres above sea level. The mountains spread out in a naturally geometrical way. This area also contains the most important waterway, The Strait of Hormuz.

The juxtaposition of sea and mountains is considered one of the exclusive features of this area. Excursions in boats and traditional ships give the visitor unforgettable enjoyment, while diving fans at the beautiful coral reefs can plunge to their hearts’ content. Archaeological sites also abound in this area.
