The Sri Lankan ambassador undertook a two-day official visit to the Governorate of Al Buraimi, northwestern region of the Sultanate of Oman from 21 – 22 November 2021.
Muscat: A Sri Lankan fruit sapling was planted at Saara Oasis in Buraimi by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman Omar Lebbe Ameer Ajwad to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The Sri Lankan ambassador undertook a two-day official visit to the Governorate of Al Buraimi, northwestern region of the Sultanate of Oman from 21 – 22 November 2021.
He called on the Governor of Al Buraimi, Sayyid Dr. Hamad bin Ahmed bin Saud Al Busaidi and held a productive meeting with a view to enhancing bilateral cooperation.
During the visit, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad planted a sapling of Canistel fruit (egg fruit) brought from Sri Lanka together with the Wali of Al Buraimi Sheikh Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Habsi, at Saara Oasis which is a traditional irrigation system (Falaj) that brings water from 3,000 year old Falaj Al Sarrani in the region of Al Buraimi.
The Sri Lankan fruit tree was planted at this historic oasis in Oman to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman.
Member of the State Council of Oman Abdul Mohsen bin Saqr Al- Naimi, Chairman of the Buraimi branch of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry Zahir bin Mohammed Al Kaabi, Wakeel of the Falaj Al Saarani Eng. Talib Ahmed Al Jabri and other dignitaries participated during this special occasion of tree planting.
The Canistel fruit (egg fruit) is a tropical one and is abundantly cultivated in Sri Lanka. The fruit is rich with vitamin A, iron, calcium and phosphorous. The Canistel plant was first brought to the Sultanate from Sri Lanka and planted at Robat Palace in Salalah.
