Oman's MoCIIP lists businesses that must offer e-payment services to consumers

The ministry pointed out that these commercial activities include industrial areas, complexes and commercial centres, gift markets, food sales, gold and silver sales, restaurants and cafes, fruit and vegetable sales, electronic, building materials and tobacco sales.

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) announced the list of existing businesses that are obligated to provide electronic payment service to consumers, starting from 2022.

The MoCIIP said in a statement, “Starting next January, the ministry, in cooperation with a number of competent authorities, will begin the first stages of implementing the decision to obligate some existing commercial activities to provide electronic payment service to consumers.”

The statement continued that this came in pursuit of comprehensive digital transformation in line with the vision of Oman 2040.

The ministry pointed out that these commercial activities include industrial areas, complexes and commercial centres, gift markets, food sales, gold and silver sales, restaurants and cafes, fruit and vegetable sales, electronic, building materials and tobacco sales.

“Providing the service without installation fees or monthly or annual fees for private sector institutions and commitment only to merchant transaction fees specified by the Central Bank of Oman,” the statement added.
