People are born as social creatures by nature, so their human purposes could be satisfied by engaging mostly with society, neighbourhoods, charities and even the companions we work or live with. Accordingly, people are very often standing as all for one and one for all, especially at hard times of struggles and challenges. Hence, people’s needs and interests vary based on their lifestyle and social standing too. That is why they have to support each other and look after one another within the same family, neeighbourhood and society.
From owning a fancy car, beautiful spacious houses and expensive clothes to having fine dining and happy vacations, there are many ways by which people can spend their hard-earned money. Undoubtedly, there is nothing wrong in rewarding yourself, but it would be great and much commendable if you reward someone else as well. Everyone of us could share the joy of giving to others; those in need perhaps!
Always making a living comes by what we get, but we make a life by what we give to others.
Our deeds of giving should extend to others in the society, rather than limiting it to just family, relatives and loved ones. It is true that charity begins at home, but it should never end there. Many people all over the world are in urgent need of our charity including those who are closer to our reach in this country. Helping others by sacrificing time and effort or donating money, for instance, always creates an improved sense of purpose in life or work and revives inner satisfaction.
If a person performs a deed which continues to benefit others in a good way, he/she will keep getting rewards for this charitable act as long as it benefits the recipients. In fact, the charitable activities anyone of us does return for our own good as they benefit our psychological, spiritual and emotional well-being. The Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said, “When a person dies his works end, except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge that is benefited from and a righteous child who prays for him.”
Charity, in general, as a religious and social obligation reflects on the other hand the unity and compassion of a society or a nation. Actually, it marks another form of human creatures and standing together for each other, especially all those in need. Those who deserve our contribution of giving back to the community, though they never ask for it. Some of them are seriously starving or even striving to make their own living with the various challenges they come across everyday.
However, one has to ask himself; how much are we doing for charity?! Probably, it is not enough to serve those needy people around us! Likewise, to what extent one is interested in supporting charitable associations and the needy families or individuals within society? Sparing some of our effort or time to fund charities or to volunteer in their activities is the least that one can do.
In view of that, the world has designated December 5 as the World’s Volunteering Day, to urge people give back to their community. This mirrors the importance of volunteering and getting indulged in charitable deeds of all forms, at home, workplace, society or the world overall. As Mahatma Gandhi stated, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”.
All what one has to do to get a first-hand experience is just to seek an opportunity with a charitable association. Such an opportunity would allow you to discover the secret behind volunteering that makes it worth sustaining the sacrifice and commitment. Simply, it is because humans are paving each other’s paths to live their destiny, make a living and fulfil ambitions.
