Shura Office reviews ministerial responses

Muscat: The Office of Majlis Ash’shura reviewed the Council of Ministers’ message regarding the ministerial statements for the third annual session (2021-2022) and the setting of dates for the attendance of ministers at Majlis As’shura meetings to deliver their statements.

This was discussed at the eighth regular meeting of the third annual session of Majlis Ash’shura Office held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura.

The Office referred several follow-up tools submitted by the members of Majlis Ash’shura to government service authorities. These included a briefing request submitted to the chairman of the Authority for Public Services Regulation on the decision to raise the allocations for water connection to homes. They also include a question addressed to the minister of education regarding contracts for school guard jobs and the ministry’s efforts to make it a permanent job.

At its meeting the Office of Majlis Ash’shura discussed several messages and responses received from the government including the response of the minister of transport, communications and information technology to a question regarding the Port of Sohar Agreement with Netherlands’ Port of Rotterdam. The minister’s response stated that the concession agreement was signed between the government and the Port of Sohar Company for the period from 2002 to 2043 and was ratified by Royal Decree No 122/2008.

Also reviewed was the response provided by the minister of transport, communications and information technology with regard to the lighting of roads using solar energy. The response explained that several specialized companies provided visual presentations about the Solar lighting system. However, when compared to the LED lighting technology some observations were made regarding the quality and high cost.

The response of the chairman of the Oman Investment Authority (OIA) to the request for briefing on preventing the export of waste and residues, was also reviewed. The response explained that be’ah, under Royal Decree 46/2009, is not concerned with banning the export of any type of waste and residues. Besides, be’ah works with other parties to encourage the private sector to set up factories and carry out recycling.

The Office of Majlis Ash’shura also discussed the response of the minister of education to the question about the weight of school bags for students. The response included a number of initiatives that would overcome the difficulties facing students with heavy school bags. The Office reviewed the minister’s response to a briefing request on the establishment of the teachers’ association to which the minister stated that the establishment of the association is subject to the Law of Civil Associations and the conditions for the establishment of civil associations.
