Muscat: Anthon Charmig (Uno-X Pro Cycling Team) had set himself the goal of taking his first pro win this season – the 23 year-old Danish talent did it as early as February, with a dominant performance on the slopes of Quriyat!
His victory ahead of Jan Hirt (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux) and Elie Gesbert (Arkea-Samsic) also makes him the third leader of the race, after Fernando Gaviria (UAE Team Emirates) and Mark Cavendish (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team). But the gaps remain extremely tight ahead of more climbing challenges on day 4 and the iconic ascent of Jabal Al Akhdhar (Green Mountain) on stage 5.
The longest distance of the Tour of Oman race (180 km) started from the most prominent scientific landmark in the Sultanate of Oman, Sultan Qaboos University, passing through Al-Sahwa, Jabal Al-Amerat, Al Hajer, Wadi Al Arabiyin, Dughamr and Quriyat Aqaba Road.
“The rout of Stage 3 comprises: From Sultan Qaboos University – towards Muscat Expressway from Al Mawaleh exit – to Al Sahwa Tower Roundabout – turning right to the Military Technological College then to the Grand Mosque Road passing by Al Irfan intersection – heading towards Muscat Grand Mall’s traffic light intersection through 23rd of July Street – then turning right to Wilayat Al Amerat through the Mountain Road to the Wilayat of Quriyat – ending at Quriyat Aqaba Road.”
