Muscat: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Thursday that Oman‘s Seeb club will host AFC Cup 2022 Group A matches at Seeb Stadium during May 18 to 24, 2022. The hosts will play alongside three-time winners Kuwait SC, Lebanon’s Al Ansar and Jableh of Syria.
The Sultanate of Oman’s another representative Dhofar are clubbed in Group B which comprised of the hosts Kuwait’s Arabi SC, Bahrain’s Al Riffa and Shabab Al Khalil from Palestine.
The Manama Stadium will host the Group C matches and this group features Bahrain’s East Riffa, Nejmeh from Lebanon, Syrian side Tishreen and Palestine’s Hilal Al Quds.
Seeb were the title holders of 2019-20 Omantel League while Dhofar are the defending champions of the His Majesty’s Cup football championship. Both domestic teams will aim to show top performance in the group stage and advance into the next stage and raise the flag of the country in the Asian event.
DHOFAR TOP DOMESTIC LEAGUE
In the current season, Dhofar are leading the top-tier league with 27 points while Seeb are second with 26 points.
In the 14th week of the league, Seeb will take on Saham on Friday and the match will kick off at 5:25 pm at Seeb Stadium.
Dhofar will host Muscat at Al Saada Stadium on Saturday and the match will kick off at 6:50 pm.
Both Seeb and Dhofar will eye crucial three points in the race for top spot.
At the HM’s Cup, both clubs have secured spot in the semifinals.
The first leg semifinal for Dhofar ended on victory note as Salalah giants registered a 2-1 win over Al Rustaq in Al Saad Satdium. Seeb and Al Nasr played a goalless draw in the first leg match in the same venue.
The second leg match of Dhofar and Al Rustaq will take place on Wednesday at the latter’s home in Al Rustaq Sports Complex while Seeb will host Dhofar at Seeb Stadium in a key clash on Thursday.
