Educational forum debates creativity and advancement

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Educational Supervision, Humanities Sciences Supervision Department, has organised the Second Scientific Forum for the academic year 2021-2022, on the theme ‘Creativity and advancement’.

The forum took place virtually on Microsoft Teams programme on Thursday the under the auspices of Dr Masooma al Ajmiyah, Councillor to the Minister for Linguistic Performance Development, and attended by Dr Suleiman al Jamudi, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Educational Supervision in the Ministry, and Darwish al Kiyumi, Director of the Humanities Sciences Supervision Department in the Directorate.

The virtual scientific forum targeted 200 participants from the first supervisors and supervisors, and the first teachers in the first field education.

The forum’s goals included updating the participants on the latest global developments in teaching reading and writing skills, and empowering them with recent experiences in these two skills.

Dr Masooma al Ajmiyah stressed the importance of holding this forum, and the experiences that were applied in the educational field on how to detect weaknesses in the reading and writing skills of some students and the methodological approaches that were followed, and the use of Al Manar story series as a tool for diagnosing these weaknesses in the two skills.

Al Ajmiyah also pointed out the importance of benefiting from these experiences and Al Manar story series in raising the level of reading and writing among students, especially in the first cycle of basic education, as this series was written, drawn and designed by a number of educators in the educational field.

Khalfan al Owaisi, supervisor, welcomed the gathering.

Four papers were presented at the forum on empowering students in grades 1-4 with reading and writing skills and benefiting from the scientific experiments. The first paper titled “Reading skill and teaching it in first cycle: Prospects and challenges” was presented by Prof Antoine Sayah, a professor at the Higher Doctoral Institute in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences in Lebanon. Writer and novelist Prof Antoine Abu Zeid, professor at the University of Lebanon, presented a second paper entitled: “The writing skill in the first cycle: Reality and hope”.
