Geneva: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the three parties to production (the Ministry of Labour, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and the General Federation of Oman Workers) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The MoU deals with jointly setting up a new national decent work programme in Oman for 2023-2025. The signing of the agreement comes on the sidelines of the 110th edition of the International Labour Conference.
The MoU was signed by Dr Mahad Said BaOwain, Minister of Labour, Ruba Jaradat, Regional Director of the ILO for Arab States, Eng Ridha Juma al Saleh, Chairman of OCCI and Nabhan Ahmed al Battashi, Chairman of the General Federation of Oman Workers.
BaOwain said that the new programme will enhance social dialogue among the parties to production, as well as boosting productivity and effectiveness.
On her turn, Ruba Jaradat said Oman proved its commitment to decent work since it joined the ILO over two decades ago.
The new national programme for appropriate work focuses on employment, grooming skills, entrepreneurship, social protection, international standards and work management.
Meanwhile, the Sultanate of Oman approved 5 agreements with the ILO since it joined the organization back in 1994.
