MUSCAT: Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) is making efforts to strengthen economic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Republic of Tanzania by encouraging and developing investment opportunities, holding introductory seminars, bilateral meetings between Omani businessmen and their Tanzanian counterparts, establishing economic forums and conducting trade delegations.
Ridha bin Juma al Saleh (pictured), OCCI Chairman said: “The official visit by Samia Soluho Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, to the Sultanate of Oman reflects the keenness of the two leaderships to develop the long-standing historical relations between the two friendly countries by building on the cooperation established by the two countries over the past decades in various fields, especially economic and commercial fields.”
In a statement to Omani News Agency, he underlined Tanzania’s strategic location as a commercial gateway to the African continent. On the flipside, Tanzania can also serve as a export hub for African goods destined for markets in the GCC and East Africa.
Oman’s Vision 2040 charter, he noted, opens up opportunities for the Tanzanian private sector to invest in industry, agriculture, fisheries, mining and tourism, in addition to possible sectors like health, education, renewable energy and information technology.
Bilateral trade amounted to RO 27.085 million in 2021, up from RO 16.359 million in 2020. This is well below the 2019 figure of RO 46.715 million, he added. — ONA
