MUSCAT, JUNE 25
The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) has awarded a contract for the construction of Phase 1 of National Road 32 — a 16km carriageway which starts in front of Duqm Refinery and runs south to the centre of Duqm.
Eng Yahya bin Khamis al Zadjali, Operations-in Charge at the Duqm SEZ, said the project is a key carriageway that will strengthen connectivity within the zone, as well as enable passenger and cargo movement in and out of the refinery area.
Phase 1 includes six-lane traffic (three in each direction), spanning a width of 120 metres, separated by hardscaped central median, with road shoulders on both sides in each direction. In addition, there will be 23 km of service roads, four signalized intersections, one roundabout, smart lighting poles (LED) and road signs.
The road has designed to high specifications to avoid the accumulation of surface water and flooding, through the construction of three major concrete bridges for the wadis at Sayy, Jurf and Dangert.
