Muscat: The latest weather charts and analyses of the National Early Warning Centre indicate the probability that, on Tuesday and Wednesday this week (July 26-27, 2022), the Sultanate of Oman will experience the impacts of a low pressure originating in India, with columns of rainclouds predicted to overcast local skies.
Oman’s Meteorology Office reported that the northern parts of the country will undergo an elongated low pressure on Tuesday and Wednesday, noting that the depression is expected to bring about heavy rains in the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, Muscat and South Al Batinah. It added that the low pressure may extend gradually to cover the governorates of North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi and Musandam.
During the peak of the low pressure, rainfall will range between 30mm to 80mm, causing wadis to overflow, showers of snow pellets and active winds measuring 20-40 knots (40-80 km/h), said the Meteorology Office. It warned that the tropical condition could entail dusty winds and cause low visibility, on land, as well as high waves measuring 4 metres along most of Omani coast.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) urges all to exercise caution and avoid crossing flooded wadis or going to sea.
