Muscat: Relief and repair work is in full swing in areas affected by the tropical weather in Oman recently.
Almost 99 percent of telecommunications services have been restored in the Musandam Governorate and over 90 percent of road connectivity rebuilt in North Al Batinah, and work is underway to restore networks in Lima, the Basic Services Sector said in a statement.
The road sector, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and the municipalities of the respective wilayats have also started opening paved and unpaved roads, earlier damaged by the rains, the Basic Services Sector said.
Priority will be given to roads of significance to commercial and economic activities, it said in a statement. Sayyid Ibrahim bin Saeed Al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, visited the wilayats of the Governorate.
He was accompanied by Dr. Ali bin Amer Al Shethani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Information Technology and Dr. Saeed bin Humaid Al Harthy, Wali of Khasab and a number of specialists in the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Information Technology to see the condition of the roads affected by the recent rains and review the efforts of the authorities to repair the damage.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has formed an emergency technical team for the immediate rehabilitation and repair of roads affected by the weather in the wilayats of Musandam Governorate for the restoration of traffic and the maintenance of asphalt roads.
The visit included an examination of the damages caused to the roads in the Wilayat of Madha, the internal roads and infrastructure in the Lima area of the Wilayat of Khasab and the internal roads in the Wilayat of Dibba.
A number of citizens met the top officials who listened to their demands regarding roads in the governorate.
Meanwhile, the Royal Navy of Oman has pressed its ships in service to transport equipment, relief materials and necessary items to Lima area in the Musandam Governorate, which was left with damaged roads and basic services adversely hit by the rough weather conditions and heavy rains.
One of the ships of the Royal Omani Navy sailed from Khasab Commercial Port, loaded with necessary equipment and supplies, to the port of Lima carrying necessary materials for the basic needs of the people.
This comes within the framework of the national and humanitarian efforts taken by the Sultan’s Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence for citizens and residents on the homeland. The Wilayat of Rustaq in the South Al Batinah Governorate also witnessed heavy to medium rains.
