Training for new Teachers of Geography, History

Muscat: The Ministry of Education, represented by the Department of Human Sciences Supervision in the Directorate-General of Educational Supervision, on Monday organised the online forum ‘Towards Sustainable Competencies’ to train 112 new teachers of history and geography.

The virtual forum began with a speech by the Directorate-General of Educational Supervision delivered by Darwish al Kiyomi, Assistant Director of the Human Sciences Supervision Department at the Ministry, in which he said: “The New Teachers Forum is one of the important educational programs that contribute to the development of performance levels in order to reach the ultimate goal, which is to achieve the quality of the process. The new teachers’ forum for the two units of supervision of geography and history for this academic year due to the belief of the importance of the sustainability of the educational and scientific competencies of the teacher and its positive and important role in raising the technical levels of teachers, which is reflected positively on the achievement levels of students.”

Two sessions were held, the first included the presentation of three papers. Huda al Amri, supervisor of the geography subject, presented the first paper titled ‘The Social Studies from Planning to Assessment.’ Dr Mohammed al Nadabi, first-supervisor of the history subject, presented the second paper entitled ‘Future skills and how to employ them in social studies.’ Sultan al Hasani, first-supervisor of the geography subject, presented an explanation of the terms of the supervisory visit form.

In the second session, Yahya al Hadhrami, a geography subject supervisor, presented a paper on how to produce interactive maps using PowerPoint and Zuwaina al Thuhli, a new teacher in geography, presented a paper on models of online reinforcement methods.
