UNITED NATIONS: Dr Mohamed al Hassan, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations, made a speech on behalf of Oman at the UN General Assembly on Monday.
Excellency, President Csaba Korosi, at the outset, it gives me great pleasure to extend our heartfelt congratulations to you and your country, the Republic of Hungary, on your election as President of the Seventy-Seventh session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman would like to reassure of its readiness to work with you and other delegations to ensure successful deliberations and conclusions of the work of this session.
Let us not to miss this opportunity to extend our appreciation to your predecessor, His Excellency Mr Abdullah Shahid, for his efforts while presiding over the work of the previous session.
The Sultanate of Oman reiterates its commendations to His Excellency the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr Antonio Guterres, for his tireless efforts in advancing the noble causes of the organisation, developing its work methods, enhancing its effectiveness and bringing the United Nations closer to the world. We would like to assure him of the Sultanate of Oman’s continued support for his efforts to achieve justice and peace in the world.
Mr President, The Sultanate of Oman pursues a well-established policy which is based on a deep and steadfast vision and a legacy drawn from its cultural heritage and history. Therefore, it affirms the fundamentals of its foreign policy, in siding with truth and justice, strengthening positive cooperation and the bonds of friendship and contributing to the consolidation of international peace and security.
The Sultanate of Oman is convinced that establishing and maintaining peace in the world is necessary for the interest of all peoples and that it can only be preserved if it is based on firm principles of justice and solid foundations of cooperation and harmony among all nations.
We call on the international community to be guided tangibly by these references and to build partnership between countries, in accordance with the tenets of international law and customary legal practices, in order to achieve peaceful coexistence and to enhance cooperation and economic prosperity for all.
