Muscat: The number of deaths due to vehicle accidents caused by collisions with stray camels was in 2021. A total of 45 injuries were recorded from these accidents.
The Governorate of Dhofar recorded the highest number of such accidents (20) as the number of accidents caused by stray camels increased by 17% in 2021 compared to 2020.
The owners of animals who let them loose will be referred to public prosecution, according to the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources.
The Ministry initiated legal action against such owners, by referring violators to the public prosecutor because of the risks the stray animals pose to individuals and public and private places.
The camel owners will be fined RO100 if their animals are found stray, while it is RO50 for each cow and RO30 for each goat, sheep, and other animals.
