Empowering women to realise objectives  of Oman Vision 2040

The event focuses on the latest trends and aspirations towards augmenting the indicators of empowering Omani women based on Oman Vision 2040.

Muscat: In line with its efforts towards empowering women to realise Oman Vision 2040 objectives, the Ministry of Social Development in cooperation with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) kicked off a two-day forum here on Monday.

Titled ‘Omani Women: Indicators of Economic and Knowledge Empowerment Within Oman Vision 2040’, the forum is being held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) within the framework of marking the Omani Women’s Day.

The event focuses on the latest trends and aspirations towards augmenting the indicators of empowering Omani women based on Oman Vision 2040. It also aims to enhance economic and knowledge empowerment of women by increasing the number of opportunities offered to them.

The forum includes fourteen working papers which cover a spectrum of topics, namely, the national mechanism of empowering Omani women within Oman Vision 2040 and the role of the public and private sectors in empowering Omani women in the labour market, among others.

The first session of the forum included three working papers on empowering Omani women in entrepreneurship in the field of technology, information and communications, the role of legislations in empowering the Omani woman in response to Oman Vision 2040 and the vocational values and ethics of newly appointed female teachers.

Dr. Laila bint Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development said that Omani women have received the Royal care under the renewed renaissance led by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. She said the Omani women represented 49.6 percent of the total population of the Sultanate till the end of December 2021.

She said that Omani women have made a difference in the fields of education, health and community development. She also pointed out that the number of Omani women working in the private sector stood at 108,481 in 2021.

The event is being organised under the patronage of Dr. Mona bint Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University for International Cooperation who stressed the significance of the forum and its positive results.
