Muscat: The CBSE Oman Cluster Chess Tournament was hosted by Indian School, Wabikabir on the 4th of November 2022. Nearly 150 students from different Indian schools in Oman which included a very strong contingent from Indian School Muscat. According to the itinerary the games commenced for boys and girls’ teams under 11, under 14, under 17 and under 19 categories.
With all the players assembled in multipurpose hall; the tournament started at around 7 in the morning and went on till late in the evening wherein the students battled with their hearts out for their respective schools.
The tournament was a grand success, ably assisted by the Head of the department of Physical education department of ISWK Premlata and Nageshwaran, respective school coaches and managers. The chief arbiter V U Divakar did a splendid job in setting up proper process and procedure as per the international standards.
D N Rao, Principal, Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir extended a warm welcome to all the participants of the CBSE Oman Cluster Chess Tournament. During his speech, he spoke on the significance of the chess game and praised all the participants for their efforts they had put into the game.
For boys under 11 category, Indian School Mabela won the first prize and for girls Under 11 category Indian School Bousher were the winners. For boys under 14 category Indian School Salalah secured the first prize and Indian school Muscat (ISM) finished runners-up. For girls under 14 category Indian School Sohar secured the first position and Indian school Muscat (ISM) finished runners-up.
Under 17 category was dominated by Indian school Muscat (ISM) wherein for both boys and girls bagged the first position.
For boys under 19 category Indian school Seeb edged out Indian school Wadi Kabir in a thrilling tie breaker to secure the first position.
The star performers were Niyolo pinto (Under 11), Ekansh Goel, Akshobhya Damodar Katti, Atharv Bansal, Shaurya Dinesh Sawlani, Akshat Dang, Darshan Rajmohan, Shybi Binoj, Sarah Mary, Hudhaifa Maqbool, Nibish, Sahana Rajmohan, Raghavesh Velavaa, Jijo Joy, Sancheta, Srivatsan Karthikeyan and Varun among others.
