MUSCAT: Gulf International Poultry Farm (GIPF), one of the Gulf region’s biggest table egg production farms, was formally inaugurated at Subaikhi in the Wilayat of Ibri in Al Dhahirah Governorate on Thursday, December 8, 2022.
The mega-scale facility, established with an investment of around RO 26 million, boasts an annual production capacity of 350 million eggs.
High-level representatives of Oman Flour Mills (OFM), a key investor in the poultry, were joined by officials from other stakeholders in the formal launch of the project under the auspices of Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. Also present were dignitaries from Al Dhahirah Governorate and Consumer Protection Authority.
Gulf International Poultry Farm is a partnership of Oman Flour Mills, the Japanese Gulf Food Fund (JGFF), Wise Foods (also a Japanese company), and IFFCO company. Covering an area of 18 million square metres, the project constitutes the GCC’s largest single site farm with 1.2 million layer birds, producing white and brown eggs. The farm features a total of five rearing houses and 15 layer houses.
Commenting on the launch, Haitham bin Mohammad al Fannah, CEO of Oman Flour Mills, stated: “The Gulf International Poultry Farm is considered one of the largest poultry farms for table egg production in the Sultanate of Oman and all GCC countries, as well as it is a part of the of the fruits of the well-established and deep-rooted relations between the Sultanate of Oman and Japan that enhances the transferring of advanced knowledge and technologies to the Sultanate of Oman in order to localize their technology and utilizing its advantages to serve our strategic sectors.”.
He further added: “The importance of this project will be more valuable, if the people came to know that, by the establishing of this project, the Sultanate of Oman has achieved self–sufficiency in producing table eggs that contribute to strengthening the country’s efforts to maximize food production in order to achieve an advanced level of sufficiency in the food security sector.”
Japanese Ambassador Jota Yamamoto commended the role of Japanese investment and technology in the poultry farm venture. “This project is the achievement of regional collaboration beyond national borders. I wish for its success to prove its relevance as a promising business model in this region. I am proud to see Japan-related Gulf Japan Food Fund among players with Nitaj (Oman Food Investment Holding Company) and Oman Flour Mills,” he stated.
