      Irfanview has many features which were not discussed in session 4 of block 3 Part3; this question will help you to learn few new features. Download Irfanview from IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide and explore it to answer the following questions.
      a) Write the menu name then the command which can be used to create a new image from scratch.
      (1 mark)


      b) Create a new image with white as background color and image width and height set to 500. Click “show paint dialog” from “Edit” menu. Draw a rectangle with red border of width 3 and a circle filled with red. Write “Hello” in blue inside the rectangle. Take a snapshot to Irfanview in this state and paste it here. (make sure the snapshot shows the Irfanview window with drawings and the paint toolbar)

      c) Open file “Mellor.bmp”, use command “Insert overlay/watermark image” from “Edit” menu to add the AOU logo in the center of the photo with transparency 70%. Take a snapshot for the image now and paste it here.

        I- INSCTRUCTIONS:


        • Cut-off date: Submit this assignment no later than April 30, 2015. All late submissions require approval from the branch course coordinator and will be subject to grade deductions.
        • Learning outcomes: The purpose of this assignment is to support students’ understanding and application of different concepts learned in BE322 especially in chapters 1, 2, 5 and 6.
        • Word count: you should discuss the questions in no more or less than the number of words mentioned for each question (plus or minus 10%).
        • Referencing: You must acknowledge all your sources of information using full Harvard Style Referencing (in-text referencing plus list of references at the end). Use E-library: to get journal articles on the topic (Emerald, EBSCO…). Use at least 2 articles.
        • Plagiarism: Remember that you should work the information from references into your own original thoughts and INTO YOUR OWN WORDS. Plagiarism will lead to a significant loss of marks. Extensive plagiarism could mean that you failed your TMA. (Refer to AOU definitions of cheating and plagiarism at the end of this document)
        • Essay guidance: Your response to each question should take the form of a full essay format. Avoid using subheadings and bullet points. Use BE322 textbook and slides, the case, and E-Library. Plan what you will write, and have a well-organized outline.
        • Using PT3 form: When you have completed your TMA, you must fill in the assignment form (PT3) posted on your moodle account, taking care to fill all information correctly.
        • Turnit-in upload: A soft copy of your TMA and PT3 form should be uploaded to Turnit-in via the link posted on your moodle account, within the cut-off date.
        • This TMA is 20% of BE322 Grade.



        I- CASES TO STUDY and QUESTIONS
        SITUATION 1
        Siblings Rob 37 and Julie 36, work in their family’s $15 million medical products firm. Both are capable leaders and have experienced success in their respective areas of responsibility. Compared to Julie, Rob is more introverted, more thorough and methodical in his planning, and much better with detail and follow-up. In contrast, Julie is more creative, more extroverted and stronger in interpersonal skills. Since childhood, they have been rather competitive in their relationships. Their 62-year-old father is considering retirement and the possibility of co-leadership, with each child eventually holding a 50% ownership in the company.




        Question 1: What are the strengths and weaknesses of the co-leadership idea? Would you favor it or reject it? Justify your answer. (300 words – 25 marks)


        SITUATION 2
        A young journalist is contemplating launching a new magazine that will feature wildlife, plant life and nature around the world. The prospective entrepreneur intends for each issue to contain several feature articles – about the dangers and benefits of forest fires, the features of Rocky Mountain National Park, wildflowers found at high altitudes, and the danger of acid rain, for example. The magazine will make extensive use of color photographs, and its articles will be technically accurate and interestingly written. The proposed publication will avoid articles dealing with the general culture and confine itself to topics related to the natural world. Suppose you are a prospective investor examining a business plan prepared by this journalist.


        Question 2: What details and important points would you look for in the business plan of this young entrepreneur? (250 words - 25 marks)

        Question 3: Do you think this entrepreneur would need to raise closer to $1 million or $10 million in startup capital? Justify your answer.(150 words – 15 marks)




        SITUATION 3
        Question 4: Write a paragraph of 400 words, describing your personal qualifications and traits personality that are in favor of launching a new business at your country: Automobile retailing store. Then conduct a SWOT analysis of your regional market for this kind of small businesses. (350 words – 35 marks)



        II- GRADES DEDUCTION:
        TMA Presentation: (up to 5 marks)
        Up to 5 marks should be deducted for poor presentation or poor organization of the TMA outline and discussion or TMA presented without PT3.
        Proper referencing: (up to 5 marks)
        Referencing should be both in-text referencing, plus a list of references at the end using Harvard style. Up to 5 marks should be deducted for poor referencing.


        Use of E-Library: (up to 5 marks)
        A minimum use of 2 articles from AOU e-library is required to support the discussions. Up to 5 marks should be deducted for no use or poor use of e-library.


        Word count: (up to 5 marks)
        The answers should be within the specified word count. A deviation of 10% is acceptable; if more, a deduction up to 5 marks will be applied.




        III- AOU POLICY ON PLAGIARISM:
        Arab Open University Definitions of cheating and plagiarism:
        Plagiarism means copying from internet, from unreferenced sources, from other students’ TMAs or any other source. Penalties for plagiarism range from failure in the TMA or the course, to expulsion from the university.
        According to the Arab Open University By-laws, the following acts represent cases of cheating and plagiarism:
        • Verbatim copying of printed material and submitting them as part of TMAs without proper academic acknowledgement and documentation.
        • Verbatim copying of material from the Internet, including tables and graphics.
        • Copying other students’ notes or reports.
        • Using paid or unpaid material prepared for the student by individuals or firms.
        • Utilization of, or proceeding to utilize, contraband materials or devices in examinations.


        Penalty on plagiarism: The following is the standard plagiarism penalty applied across branches as per Article 11 of the university by-laws was revisited and modified to be more explicit with regard to plagiarism on TMAs. Penalties include the following:
        1) Awarding of zero for a TMA wherein more than 20% of the content is plagiarized.
        2) Documentation of warning in student record.
        3) Failure in the course to dismissal from the University.


        IV- PT3 FORM
        Use of PT3 form is mandatory as a cover page for your TMA. This form is provided to you by your tutor or posted on LMS. TMA presented without PT3 form is subject to grades deduction. This PT3 form will be used by your tutor to add comments and marks and will be returned to you with the annotated work.

          2. Create all the required classes in TMA inside this project. Name each class according to the
          question No. in addition to your ID (e.g. Q2_StudentID)
          3. You will find a solution template (document file) on LMS with the following name:
          M105-TMA-2014-2015-Spring-Branch-StudentID-FirstNameLastName
          You should write your answers inside this document, but you need to:
          a) Sign the “Declaration of No Plagiarism” electronically (it is enough to put your
          name and ID).
          b) Modify the following information in the file name: Branch, StudentID and
          FirstNameLastName
          Example:
          "Ahmad Omar" is in Kuwait Branch and his ID is 099999. He should change the file
          name to be: M105-TMA-2014-2015-Spring-KWT-099999- AhmadOmar
          4. Copy and paste the code of all the classes + the required snapshots inside the above

          5. Create a compressed file including the folder of your project.
          6. Name the compressed file as the document file.

          Important Notes:
          1) You should solve TMA individually. There are no groups in TMA.
          2) In sha'a Allah, there will be an exam in TMA. The date and time of it will be announced
          later.
          3) When writing your programs, you should follow good programming style that helps
          readability. This includes:
          • Using short comment at the beginning stating the purpose of each program.
          • Selecting meaningful names for identifiers.
          • Using spacing and indentations to help make the structure of your program clear.
          You could lose up to 3 marks if you did not do that.

          a. Write a Java class (program) that reads from the user 2 integers that
          represent the height of a cone and the radius of its circular base.
          Then calculates and prints the volume of this cone (rounded to 1
          decimal place). [10 marks]

          The formula used for calculating the volume of a cone could be found in
          any "geometry" book. In addition, you can search the internet to get it.
          b. Give the exact output of your program. Provide a snapshot representing the exact output of

          a. Write a Java application that computes and prints the grade of a student according to the
          following algorithm:
          1) It should read from the user TMA score and MTA score.
          2a) If their sum is less than 15, the grade "FC" should be printed and the program will stop.
          2b) Otherwise,
          2b1) It will read from the user final exam score.
          2b2a) If it is less than 20, the grade "FF" should be printed and the program will stop.
          2b2b) Otherwise,
          2b2b1) If the total score (sum of all scores) is less than 50, the grade "F" should be printed.

                    The TMA:
                    This TMA is based around two cases of “business combination” and “intercompany transaction and relevant information”. Marks will be awarded for blending the context of each case and with relevant theory by means of your own interpretation. In addition to this, some research is required.
                    The TMA requires you to:
                    1- Review various study sessions beside the supplementary materials.
                    2- Conduct a simple information search using the internet.

                      Introduction


                      This TMA has one question with three parts. You should answer them all. The questions in this assignment are all about different aspects of the process of exploring a complex situation: drawing different kinds of maps of it, recognizing how complex it is, identifying the different perspectives it can be viewed from, and stepping back to reflect on this whole process of exploration to see the strengths and weaknesses of the approach you have adopted, and how you might do it better.


                      Question 01 (100 % marks)


                      (a) Read through the attached article “Organizational Structure: The Case of Toyota”. As you read through the article create one spray diagram to summarize the case content respecting the conventions, and techniques. It is advised that students submit hand drawn diagrams as opposed to computer generated ones. Photocopies of diagrams should not be accepted. Reflect on your diagram in no more than 200 words. (15% marks).
                      (b) Based on what you learned in T205B concept file 04 section II “Control”, and based on the content of the article, and taking “Fixing a failing structure” as your goal draw one closed loop control model diagram to show the various inputs, and the transformation process, that can lead to reaching this goal. You need to show all the components of the control model diagram, the inputs’, processes, control (actuator, comparator, sensor), that can lead to goal achievement . Reflect on your diagram (15% marks)


                      (c) Using an essay format of no more than 2500 words, and based on what you learned in T205B concept file 04 section I “Organizations are They Rational”, readings 01 and 07, section III “Structure”, section IV development, section V culture and climate, and section VI “Decision Making” and based on the ideas put forth by Taggart in the attached article:


                      1- Discuss the concept of organizational structure and assess which type of task related structure is required to meet Toyota’s communication needs. (Word Count 500; 15 Marks)
                      2- Discuss the concepts of organizational culture and climate and assess Toyota’s culture and climate. (Word count 400; 15 Marks)
                      3- Assess the extent to which Toyotas structure, culture and climate played a role in its failure to react to the defect problem, (Word count 400; 15 Marks).
                      4- Discuss the different perspectives on decision making and assess how the decision making process at Toyota has affected its ability to respond to the defect problem (Word count 400; 15 Marks).
                      5- Discuss the concept of organizational learning and assess whether Toyota is a learning organization; justify your answers with evidence from the case (300 words; 10 Marks).

                      Guidance to Question 01


                      For this question you need to read the assigned article carefully and to reflect back on concept file 04 for the theoretical assessment.


                      (a) At this stage of the course you are expected to have developed good understanding of the purpose of drawing spray diagrams as part of applying the SUDA process for solving a messy situation. A spray diagram is the first type of diagrams drawn in the sensing phase of the SUDA process of mess analysis, in order to summarize the main ideas of a case, or the main components/elements of a situation. Please pay attention to the conventions and make sure that the central topic and other subtopics are relevant, and do make sense to the reader. Go back to T552 (Diagramming) the appendix to refresh your memory about the conventions.


                      (b) This is your first attempt at drawing a control model diagram. The task should not be challenging though. Refer to Concept file 04 section II “Control”. You need to draw a control model diagram to show how the selected inputs can reach the stated goal. You also need to illustrate clear, relevant, and non-overlapping inputs, clear and accurate transformation process and an output which is consistent with the goal. You also need to specify which organizational entity is in charge of assuming the role of each of the elements/components of the control model (i.e. actuator, sensor, and comparator). The parties in charge of performing each task within the control mechanism should be clearly identified. It is very important that your diagram is specific rather than generic.


                      (c) Here you need to practice your analytical skills to assess what is required. Remember to start with a good introduction in which you define the assessed topic before moving on to explaining your plan for working on the TMA. In the body you should move on to assess the causes of the problems faced by Toyota and the impact of the organization’s structure, climate and decision making on its reaction to the problem. You also need to evaluate whether Toyota is a learning organization by relying on both theoretical principles and practical examples, and on the ideas presented in the assigned article.

                              B301 A: Making Sense of Strategy I
                              SPRING- Semester 2014 – 2015

                              Please Note that this particular TMA is meant to respond to recommendations given by EE to encourage and develop greater critical analytical skills especially at level 6, by encouraging the students to read more widely; the greater use of comparative case studies; and encouraging part-time students to reflect on the application of the theories discussed to their own workplace.




                              Question
                              For the purposes of this TMA you should imagine that you are working as a strategist in an industry in your country. (Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt or Sudan) You have been asked to critically analyze the strategy adopted by any two *firms doing similar business in the same industry.
                              You are required to discuss:
                              1. Structure of the chosen industry (150 words Marks 10)
                              2. Why the two similar firms are different in their performance (350 words Marks 20)
                              3. Based on Question No.2 above you are required to discuss:
                              a) Strategy to be adopted by the high performing firm to sustain its competitive advantage. (1000 words Marks 35)
                              b) Strategy to be adopted by the low performing firm to improve its performance. (1000 words marks 35)
                              *You should choose, using any criteria, one firm that you believe is performing strongly and a second firm you believe is not doing so well

                                “I am Heathcliff…if all perished and he remained, I should still continue to be; and if all else remained and he were annihilated, the Universe would turn to a mighty stranger.” In the above quotation, Catherine voices a strong romantic attachment to Heathcliff but the development of the novel culminates into an anti-romantic ending.
                                How does Bronte present Wuthering Heights as a ‘crossover’ novel between romanticism and realism? What are the features of her leading male and female characters that defy the ideal model of romantic heroism? How does the ending of the novel serve in further distancing the novel from the romantic norm?
                                Finally, as a reader, what are your reflections on the novel? Would you have preferred a classical or realistic ending? Do think that such a cross racial relationship would have stood a chance in a conservative Victorian society?
