The low pressure area over the Arabian Sea has become a tropical depression.
According to Oman Met office, the tropical depression is moving towards west-northwest along the coastal areas of India and Pakistan. The clouds have already formed over northern parts of the Sultanate already but these clouds will not result in rain.
“The medium and high clouds are due to advection will not bring in rain due to the tropical depression and this is an indirect impact. The only rain we have now is from Al Hajar local cloud development at midday,” said the Met Office weather forecaster.
In the next 48 hours the weather experts at the Directorate General of Meteorology, Civil Aviation Authority do not expect any direct impact over the Sultanate of Oman.
After 48 hours the weather expert said the analysis fluctuates with varying possibilities.
“The main possibility is that it will cross the coastal areas of India and Pakistan and diminish while over Oman Sea. There is possibility for it to reach the northern governorates of Oman that could bring in some rain, but we can only confirm that after 48 hours,” said the weather forecaster.
The National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre weather analysis indicated that the tropical depression observed in the north east of the Arabian Sea on Thursday is located at longitude 68.2E and latitude 22.3 N with estimated surface wind speed around the center 17-37 knots (31-50 km/hour).
Sea is expected to be moderate to rough 1.5 to 3.0 magnitudes along the Oman Sea starting October 1.
