Bus and ferry services suspended across Oman except in Salalah

Mwasalat suspended its bus and ferry services in all the governorates following the development from the tropical storm Shaheen.

However, bus services in Salalah will not be affected.

According to a statement from the state-owned operator, “Mwasalat will suspend its bus and ferry services in all governorates of the Sultanate, starting from Sunday. The city bus service in Salalah and ferry service for the route Shannah-Masirah will continue.”

In the meantime, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has called upon owners of shipping companies and marine units to exercise caution due to Shaheen.

A statement from the ministry urged them to monitor the developments with caution before operating cruises.

“The ministry would like to warn all owners of ships to ensure the safety of maritime navigation in the Omani territorial waters. They should take the utmost care and caution and follow up on developments of the weather situation from their official sources before operating cruises,” it said.

Sultan Qaboos University decided to suspend classes on Sunday and Monday. The university said that this decision comes in light of the exceptional expectations of the climatic conditions in the Sultanate and in the interest of the safety of students.

The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Rustaq and Muscat announced its decision to implement distance learning from October 3 to 7.

“Due to the climatic conditions that the Sultanate is witnessing, it has been decided that distance learning will be for all students until further notice; therefore, please follow the email to follow up on the details of attending the courses,” the university said in a statement.
