As many as 100 paddlers will take part in the 2021 WTT Youth Contender Muscat which will begin on Sunday in the main indoor hall at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.
The TT event is organised by Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) in coordination with World Table Tennis (WTT) and ITTF. The players attending the tournament are from 19 countries including: Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, India, UAE, Iran, Yemen, Qatar, Maldives, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Nigeria, Syria, Bangladesh, Iraq, Sri Lanka and beside the hosts Oman.
TT world class event in Muscat will be hosted in two stages. The first part of the championship is for boys from Sunday to Tuesday. The girls competition will commence from Thursday and will conclude on Friday.
The five days event will feature different competition categories including U-11, U-13, U-15, U-17, and U-19. All the competitions will be played as singles category.
Oman’s junior paddlers will look for a perfect show and target for the top positions in the event. The national TT team had an internal preparatory camp in SQSC in Muscat under watchful eyes of Syrian Adnan Fawakherji who is technical supervisor of the team. The girls paddlers are underway in the ITTF High performance camp until Wednesday.
The organising team completed all the technical and logistics preparations ahead of the event start. More than eight tables are set in the venue for the competitions. WTT Youth Contender Muscat event is the first in Muscat and it is expected Muscat will host more upcoming events of WTT soon.
The national squad comprised the following players: Laith al Balushi, Eyad al Jassasi, Turki al Abri, Badar al Farsi, Omar al Awadi, Mohammed al Jassasi, Ali al Ghafri, Moyad al Mutawa, Loqman al Farsi, Ayman al Shehi, Mohammed al Moutawa, Badar al Jassasi, Abdulrahman al Zaabi, Mashal al Shehi. The girls team feature from: Al Hoor al Jassasi, Noor al Farsi and Retaj al Abri.
