A free Covid-19 vaccination campaign for those who have not taken their doses started at the Sablah in Muttrah on Thursday. The drive that aims to cater to low-income groups will continue on Friday and Saturday.
“We began a 3-day vaccination camp aiming at both citizens and expatriates and they can either take the first or second dose. We have both Pfizer and AstraZeneca,” the doctor in charge told the Observer.
This new temporary facility is in addition to the major vaccination camp in Oman Convention and Exhibition Center (OCEC) which has been inoculating thousands for several months.
Anyone living in the Sultanate can simply walk in to get their jab done and no pre-registration is required. “Those who have registered too can walk in and get the vaccine.”
The MoH representative further said that nearly three fourth of the total population of Oman has been covered by the ongoing vaccination campaigns and 2,614,000 people have so far received both doses making 73 per cent of the total population.
Those who have taken the first dose are now at 3,065,137 covering 86 per cent of the total.
As many as 5,700,000 of vaccines have been used in the country for both citizens and expatriates ever since the campaign was started earlier this year.
On Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Authority added India’s Covaxin to the approved list of Covid-19 vaccines to fly to Oman without undergoing quarantine upon arrival.
