South Africa failed to restrict England to less than 131 as the Proteas were knocked out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 at the expense of Australia, in Sharjah on Saturday. Batting first, South Africa piled on a big total of 189/2 in 20 overs and had high hopes of restricting England to under 131 to progress to the semis but that was not to be.
England batsmen went after the South African bowlers to overhaul their own qualifying score of 86 quickly before overhauling 131 in the 16th over to send Australia through.
ENGLAND CRUISE
England were off to a rollicking start as they reached 50/0 in the powerplay overs with Jos Buttler scoring 24 runs of 13 balls.
However, Jason Roy who was going strong at 20 after having struck four boundaries retired hurt with a leg injury.
Buttler was later out for 26 to Anrich Nortje through a catch taken by Tenda Bavuma at mid-off as England reached 56/1.
In the seventh over, Jonny Bairstow was out lbw to Tabrez Shamsi as England were in a bit of a bother at 61/2.
Moeen Ali and Dawid Malan then put on a partnership of 51 runs with both of them taking the South African attack to the cleaners.

Earlier, South Africa put up a massive score after some thunderous batting from Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram. Rassie slammed six sixes and five boundaries for his 94 while Markram’s 52 off 25 balls was the perfect complementary innings. He scored two boundaries and four sixes.
The 103-run partnership between the duo took the Proteas to the big score of 189/2 in 20 overs.
It gave South Africa a good opportunity to get England bowled out for under 131 or fewer and get a victory for over 60 runs.
