Al Bashaer club claims ministry basketball shield title

MUSCAT, Nov 9

After being champions of 2020-2021 Oman Basketball League on October 18, Al Bashaer club lifted the 11th edition of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Basketball shield title after defeating Seeb 71-67 in the concluding game on Monday.

The Al Dakhiliyah team representative managed to earn another basketball triumph after domination of the domestic titles between Nizwa and Seeb during the previous seasons.

Al Bashaer team commenced the match strongly and the team managed to end the first quarter by 20-15. They continued leading as they concluded the second quarter with ten points gap at 40-30. Seeb, coached by Kazim al Balushi, tried to bounce back and the team reduced the gap to six points as the quarter ended at 58-52.

The last quarter was interesting as both teams were looking to end the match on successful note. Seeb players were very close to reach the finish line as the results reached 60-61 but later Al Bashaer team players pressured hard and managed to conclude the tough encounter at 67-71.

Basil bin Ahmed al Rawas, Under-Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth, was the chief guest in presence of Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, Chairman of Oman Basketball Association (OBA). After the conclusion of the final fixture, he distributed the medals and shield to the winning teams and players. Al Bashaer team received the Ministry shield, gold medals and cash prize of RO 10,000 while Seeb players have been awarded the silver medals and cash prize of RO 6,000. Nizwa team was positioned in the third place and got bronze medals and cash prize of RO 4,000.

The head coach of Al Bashaer team, Samer al Kayali, said that the final encounter against Seeb was very tough as expected. “Seeb players delivered a top show and they have a very organised and strong attack. The team comprised experienced and talented youth players and I am expecting a successful future for them. The triumph came after a difficult game and the experience part was in Al Bashaer team as the players managed to monitor and control their focus properly to end the match on a successful note,” he added.

Commenting on the team’s plans for near future, the coach responded that the team will begin preparations for the 2021-2022 Sultanate of Oman basketball league and forthcoming championships.
