Concern over lax in following Covid-19 protocols

The Sultanate of Oman may be recording an average of less than 15 Covid-19 cases a day but the country is still not out of the pandemic. The nation is reporting cases despite the fact that a large percentage of the population is fully vaccinated. Health experts have told the Observer that the situation is under control in Oman, but it should be not taken for granted.

While the rule regarding the mandatory use of wearing masks and social distancing is still in force, a good number of visitors to parks, malls, and beaches tend to flout rules even if it is for a brief moment too.

“It looks like we are done with the Covid-19 here in Oman and even the business entities are not too worried about the virus or its resurgence,” said Maya Krishnan, an expat, who felt that masks must be worn at all times, especially in public places.

” Those who did not receive the vaccine should take it as a priority and when the vaccination is available for children it must be given to them,” said a consultant at a private hospital.

Dr Ahmed bin Mohammad al Saeedi, Minister of Health, has expressed concern over the lack of seriousness in applying precautionary measures in the community.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Thursday reported seven new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours and zero deaths. There are currently 487 active cases in the country.

The total number of inpatients was 10, including three in intensive care units.
