Oman, South Korea to boost cooperation in green hydrogen space

Muscat: OQ, the global integrated energy group of the Sultanate of Oman, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with KOGAS Tech aiming at exploring potential cooperation between the two parties in hydrogen-related opportunities.

The MoU ceremony was held at OQ headquarters in Muscat and was signed by OQ Group CEO Talal al Awfi, and by KOGAS CEO Cho Yong-Don. Besides officials from OQ, the MoU signing was attended by Kim Chang Kyu, Ambassador of South Korea to the Sultanate of Oman and Dajeon’s Vice Mayor of Science, Dr Myungsoo Kim. The latter is currently visiting Muscat and meeting Omani officials to discuss ways to further enhance cooperation on hydrogen production between the two countries.

The Sultanate of Oman is blessed with favourable wind and solar resources, making it one of the best countries to produce Green Hydrogen. Alternative Energy is considered to be one of the selective growth areas at OQ, and collaborations have been established in the past few months between OQ and world-class partners to explore potential opportunities in this evolving industry. This partnership with KOGAS marks another major milestone in the future development of Green Hydrogen in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Vice Mayor said: “By strengthening cooperation with OQ we hope to achieve our joint goal of establishing a Green Hydrogen economy. Dajeon Metropolitan City plans to maximize positive synergies by connecting Dajeon Metropolitan City’s advanced Hydrogen R&D capabilities and the Sultanate’s strong position to produce Green Hydrogen. At Dajeon Metropolitan City, we are committed to further strengthening our cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman.”

Talal al Awfi, OQ GCEO said, “In the Sultanate of Oman, we are blessed with an abundance of wind and solar energy. In line with global trends, Oman is witnessing a major shift towards production of green hydrogen and ammonia, and OQ is proud to be leading the efforts to harness green energy in the Sultanate. This MoU with KOGAS Tech is a step towards expanding the knowledge, technological and research pool on

Green Hydrogen and we are confident that this cooperation will lead to innovative solutions in this field.”
