Month-long ‘Made in Oman’ roadshow kicks off

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion launched on Thursday its ‘Made in Oman’ campaign in collaboration with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) and the SME Development Authority (Riyada) in coordination with a number of malls and supermarkets in the Sultanate of Oman. The month-long drive seeks to promote locally produced goods.

The campaign was formally kicked off at a ceremony held at LuLu’s Hypermarket in Al Ghubra under the auspices of Asila bint Salim al Samsamiyah, Under-Secretary for Investment Promotion.

In remarks on the occasion, OCCI President Eng Ridha bin Juma al Saleh, said the roadshow is being launched against the backdrop of the Sultanate of Oman’s 51th National Day of the Renaissance. It campaign seeks to promote Omani products domestically and internationally.

A ‘Made in Oman’ display unveiled at LuLu’s on Thursday showcased more than 5,000 products manufactured by around 100 Omani businesses, said Al Saleh, noting that locally produced goods are well-known for their quality and production standards.

Engineer Sami bin Salem al Sahib, Director General of Industry, stated: “This is the second edition of the Ministry’s ‘Made in Oman’ campaign, which began last year with the goal to promote national products locally. Our focus then was on the quality of Omani goods, which are comparable with international products.”

The official added that the Ministry is aggressively promoting the campaign in the different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. It will also work in cooperation with the Ministry of Education to drive home the importance of patronizing locally produced goods.

A number of leading malls and supermarkets across the country have also set up dedicated sections for the display of Omani products as part of the month-long drive. Omani citizens and expatriate residents will be encouraged to buy Omani products and demonstrate pride in the country’s manufacturing sector. (With inputs from ONA)
