7.9% rise in electricity production in Oman by September 2021

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s production of electricity increased by 7.9% by the end of September 2021 to reach 32,411.8 GW per hour compared to the end of September 2020, when the total production was 30,43.1 GW per hour.

Meanwhile, water production went up by 2.1% to reach 362,334.8 million cubic metres, according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The total electricity production in the Governorates of North and South Al Batinah and the Governorate of Al Dhahirah reached 20,54.5 GW per hour by the end of September 2021 compared to 18,764.7 GW per hour, recording an increase by 6.9%, the highest rate of production compared to other governorates.

The total electricity production in the Governorate of North and South Al Sharqiyah recorded growth by 10% to reach 7,406.9 GW per hour by the end of September 2021 compared to the same period in 2020 when it stood at 6,730.9 GW per hour. Meanwhile, the total electricity production saw a rise in the Governorate of Muscat by 22.3% to reach 1,054 GW per hour compared to 861.6 GW per hour.

In the Governorate of Al Wusta, it went up by 34% to reach 530.7 GW per hour compared to the same period in 2020 when it stood at 395.9 GW per hour.

In the Governorate of Musandam, the total electricity production reached 341.8 GW per hour, comprising an increase of 1.7% compared to the same period in 2020 when it was 335.9 GW per hour.

Whereas the total electricity production in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah stood at 348.8 GW per hour compared to 24.5 GW per hour in the same period in 2020.

However, the total electricity production in the Governorate of Dhofar recorded a decline by 8.7% to reach 2,675.2 GW per hour compared to the same period in 2020 when it was 2,929.5 GW per hour.

The Sultanate of Oman’s net electricity production at the end of September 2021 increased by 8.3% to reach 31,405.6 GW per hour compared to the same period in 2020 when it stood at 28,991.9 GW per hour.

The net figures are inclusive of purchases by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and the Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC).

The highest rate of growth in the net electricity production was in the Governorates of North and South Al Batinah and the Governorate of Al Dhahirah which reached 19,388.7 GW per hour, comprising a rise of 7.2% compared to the same period in 2020 when it stood at 18,78.9 GW per hour.

The Governorates of North and South Al Sharqiyah also saw an increase by 10.2% at the end of September 2021 to reach 7,242.3 GW per hour compared to September 2020 when it stood at 6,570.4 GW per hour.

In the Governorate of Muscat, the net electricity production went up by 22.8% to stand at 1,46.5 GW per hour compared to the same period in 2020 when it stood at 852.3 GW per hour.

Moreover, the Governorate of Al Wusta recorded a rise of 37.2% to reach 521.4 GW per hour compared to the same period in 2020 when it stood at 380 GW per hour.

The Governorate of Musandam also recorded an increase of 1.8% to reach 332.7 GW per hour compared to the same period in 2020 when it stood at 326.9 GW per hour.

The net electricity production also recorded a surge in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah by 1312.5% to reach 331.4 GW per hour compared to September 2020 when it stood at 23.5 GW per hour.

Meanwhile, the Governorate of Dhofar recorded a drop by 7.9% to reach 2,542.6 GW per hour compared to the same period in 2020 when it stood at 2,759.9 GW per hour.

Furthermore, the water production in the Governorate of Muscat stood at 155,918,100 cubic metres, comprising an increase of 1.4%. Whereas the water production in other governorates reached 161,247,000 cubic metres, comprising an increase by 5%. However, the Governorate of Dhofar recorded a decrease in water production by 4.8% to reach 45,169,700 cubic metres. –ONA
