Muscat: Following a series of qualifying events the team of four players have been selected who will travel to Egypt to represent the Sultanate in the 40th Pan Arab Golf Championships.
Testament to the overall development of golf in the Sultanate, and in particular to the focus on juniors, the team of four includes three ‘graduates’ from the OGA’s Junior Development Program. Joining National Team stalwart Azaan Al Rumhy will be Hamood Al Harthy, Fahad Al Kitani and current Junior Squad Member Ayman Al Busaidi who at the age of 15 saw off several more seasoned players through qualifying to claim his spot on the team.
Last played in Morocco in 2019, the 2021 event will be played from the 16th to the 23rd December at the Dreamland Golf Club in Cairo and will bring together the finest golfers from the Middle East who compete over 4 days, both as a team and individually. The best three scores from four are counted each day for the team championship and individual scores from each country are also recognised for gold, silver, and bronze medals.
Mundhir Al Barwani, Chairman of the Oman Golf Association (OGA) is quoted as saying “We are very excited to be sending our team to participate in the 40th Pan Arab Championships, Dreamland is a course that our players know well as it has been the host venue on several occasions before. It is sad that the previous hosts, Morocco, will not be able to travel to compete this year but we look forward to a good four days of competition against the other teams from the region. It is great to see our younger players qualifying to represent the Sultanate at senior level and we must thank the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Youth along with our partners, in particular Sohar Aluminium, Moore, Haya Water and Oman LNG for their ongoing support of golf development in Oman”.
