Action against employees avoiding vaccination in Oman

Muscat: As part of efforts being undertaken by the government to address the impacts of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and, based on Covid-19 Supreme Committee’s decision requiring the Labour Ministry to devise a uniform mechanism to deal with unvaccinated employees of public sector units, private sector establishments and other legal entities, the Ministry of Labour is bringing the following points to the attention of all units of the State’s Administrative Apparatus, other public legal entities and the private sector:

Firstly, to ensure that an employee or worker submits a vaccination certificate stating that he/she has taken two doses of any vaccine approved in the Sultanate of Oman or shows a medical report issued by a health institution confirming that the employee is facing a health condition that prohibits him/her from taking the vaccine.

Secondly, not to allow access to a workplace for any employee or worker who fails to submit a Covid-19 vaccination certificate or present medical report confirming that the employee is facing a health condition that prohibits him/her from taking the vaccine.

Thirdly, in the event that an employee has been denied access to the workplace due to non-submission of a vaccination certificate or a medical report stating the condition that barred him/her from taking the prescribed vaccination, the unit has a right to apply the provisions of a unit’s job system pertaining to an employee’s non-attendance (at the workplace) that is not justified by an authorized leave of absence.

The Ministry of Labour requests all units of the State’s Administrative Apparatus, other legal public bodies and private sector establishments to distribute this circular to their employees and to advise those who have not yet taken the vaccination to come to terms with its requirements, notably to protect their colleagues and families and limit the risks posed by the virus.
