Low pressure trough to affect Sultanate from Wednesday

Rains may lead to flash floods and overflow of wadis.

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will be affected by a trough of low pressure from Wednesday, lasting for several days, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said on Tuesday.

The effect of the trough of low pressure starting is expected to last for several days.

The weather will be cloudy over the governorates of Musandam, and North Al Batinah with chances of rain (50-100 mm) occasional thundershowers, fresh winds, flash floods in valleys, and chances of rainfall (10-25 mm) over the governorates of South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhliyah, South Al Sharqiyah and North Al Sharqiyah.

Rains may lead to flash floods and overflow of wadis. Moderate sea conditions are forecast along most of the Sultanate’s coasts with a maximum wave height of two metres.

Conditions may become rough during thundershowers along the coastal areas of Musandam Governorate and Sea of Oman coast with a maximum wave height of three metres.

The Civil Aviation Authority advised all to take precautions during rainfall and to check the sea state before sailing and keep track of weather updates.

Meanwhile, parts of Muscat Governorate witnessed isolated rainfall on Tuesday.

“When I woke up in the morning, it was drizzling. The weather was so nice,” Suresh Kumar, a resident of Ruwi said.

A statement from Oman Meteorology said, “Clouds intensified over the coastal areas of Oman and several places witnessed scattered rainfall.”
