Six people died as some governorates of the Sultanate of Oman were affected by a trough of low pressure, according to Royal Oman Police. Following a report of a vehicle drifting in the Wadi Surur stream in the Wilayat of Samayil, where one person was found earlier, Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority has been continuously working on cases of missing and vehicles drifting away in wadi water. Five from one family in Al Buraimi and one individual in Samayil died after their vehicles drifted away.

Search and rescue teams at the Department of Civil Defence and Ambulance are at the site to search for the second missing person. The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority stressed the necessity of adhering to the preventive guidelines during the rains and the flow of valleys, and not to risk crossing the valleys to preserve the safety of lives and property. Due to the continued rain and the flow of wadis, the Royal Oman Police calls on everyone to take precautions and stay away from water gatherings and streams of wadis.
Major Mohammed al Hashami from Royal Oman Police said there had been numerous campaigns not to cross wadis, but we still continue to have these incidents.
“Why is it necessary to risk oneself and the families by challenging the wadis. It is also not the right place to gather or go sightseeing.
“The rains will continue until Wednesday, and it is important to save oneself from these risks. There can be other wadis too that can be activated during night due to the current trough of low pressure because the low pressure will continue until January 5.”
According to Captain Munir bin Mohammed al Sinan of the Public Relations Department, there were reports of detention of individuals and vehicles in wadis following heavy rains in northern governorates.
