Muscat: A senior police official on Saturday said that 6 deaths were recorded due to heavy rainfall caused by the low pressure trough, which is likely to continue affected Oman’s weather till Wednesday.
Captain Munir bin Mohammed Al Sinan from the Department of Public Relations in the Royal Oman Police said: “6 people have died as a result of the effects of the weather over some of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.”
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said in its weather bulletin number 3, “The latest weather analysis at the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre indicates that the Sultanate of Oman will continue to be affected by a trough of low pressure expected to last until Wednesday. The weather is expected to be cloudy over the governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Buraimi, Al Dahirah, Al Dakhliya, South Al Sharqiya and North Al Sharqiya with chances of rain, occasional thundershowers associated with fresh winds, flash floods and hail.”
“Chances of thundershowers concentrated over Governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah and Al Hajar mountains during the coming two days. While the weather will be partly cloudy with chances of isolated rain over rest of the governorates,” CAA said, adding, “Moderate sea conditions along most of the Sultanate coastline with a maximum wave height of 2.0 metres and rough seas during thundershowers along the coastal areas of Musandam Governorate and Oman Sea coasts with maximum wave height of 3 metres.”
