Sri Lankan business delegation to meet Omani business fraternity

@kabeeryousef –

Backed by a series of talks and webinars in investment promotion with the Sultanate of Oman, Sri Lanka is aiming to enhance its trade ties with the country on investments in a plethora of sectors.

Accordingly, nearly 75 Sri Lankan exporters from a cross section of sectors ranging from tea and tea-based products and food products to gems and engineering products will be receiving Omani counterparts at the Sri Lankan pavilion at the Expo 2020 in Dubai.

Letters of invitation and official negotiations are currently underway with M Shiham Marikar, Secretary General of National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka and OL Ameer Ajwad, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman who have met with Eng Redha bin Juma al Saleh, Chairman of the OCCI Board.

“We are happy to welcome the Sri Lankan export-Import and trade initiatives and liaise between the national chambers of the two friendly countries which is part of our ongoing drive to enhance mutual trade relations between countries in the region and beyond,” said Eng Redha.

The top notch representatives of nearly 150 sectors and sub-sectors will interact with the Omani investors and business partners on February 17, 18, 19 and 20 at the venue.

“Besides allowing free business initiatives in Colombo, we are also mulling over relaxed visa formalities and other incentives in a bid to attract more foreign investments the way we do for our exports to the Sultanate of Oman,” said Shiham Marikar.

The delegation will also comprise representatives of leading business houses specialised in health, agriculture, food, farming, tourism, boat building, fisheries, garments and ICT in both the Sultanate of Oman and Sri Lanka seeking more areas for mutual cooperation.

“Nearly 75 representatives of business communities from Sri Lanka comprising exporters, importers as well as investors will be networking with Omani business fraternity and both sides can make use of this opportunity to seek opportunities in both countries,” OL Ameer Ajwad, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman told the Observer.

Earlier, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two Chambers of Commerce of Oman and Sri Lanka was signed to promote business cooperation between the private sectors of both countries.
