Always raising the bar of excellence

@kabeeryousef –

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has excelled in all spheres of its operation, be it maintaining the law and order or providing any services to the general public.

Established in 1970 soon after Late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said came to power, the force was then rechristened Royal Oman Police (ROP) in 1974. In November the same year, ROP received its colours from His Majesty the Sultan. The next year, the sprawling ROP headquarters was inaugurated in Qurum. The Police Academy in Nizwa was established in 1980.

Till then, security was the sole responsibility of the local walis who carried it out with the help of local “Askars”. The police presence was limited to the township of Muscat and Muttrah. Today, the ROP has grown to be one of the best in the region over the last 51 years.

To commemorate the establishment of a full-fledged police system in the Sultanate, the force celebrates Police day on January 5.

Malik bin Ahmed bin Hamed al Naabi, Chief of Operations at the ROP Azaiba ,said that humanity and effectiveness are the two core mottos upon which the ROP was built. “The ROP has achieved so much in the last five decades which made it one of the best forces in the region for two important features, humanity and effectiveness.”

The Royal Oman Police worked to implement a comprehensive executive plan to implement it in the traffic, passports, residence, civil status, examination and technical vehicles stations quickly.

On the occasion of the celebration of the ROP celebration of its annual day, which falls on the fifth of January every year, Observer visited the Unified Services Building at the ROP Azaiba, and experienced the services that the ROP is providing such as clearing transactions, speed of completion, and the extent of the officials’ role in in a number of areas.

“The services provided by the Royal Oman Police for the society in various spheres of life are exemplary and the online services aim to alleviate the inconveniences and save time. Documents are now available in many public and commercial facilities,” said Muhammad bin Nasser al Wahaibi, a senior of the civil status auditors at the Azaiba Center.

He further added that the police services buildings, which were built according to the latest standards and technical specifications, took into account the reduction of crowding in line with pandemic protocols.
