Give yourself time to reset throughout the year

7 يناير، 2022
in Oman News
When Mama Dog didn't expect the warm welcome…

As a child, I used to think how you brought in the new year was important. It needed to be a big, magnificent outward celebration. The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve learned that while that might be fun, it is not everything.

What makes a new year special? Is it the way we celebrate? Is it how we spend the last minute of the year? Is it based on how we spend the first minute of the new year?

Or, could it be something else entirely…

Here is what I think:

YOU make a new year special.

I do. We do. Our energy. Our faith. Our celebration. Our community.

Your inward rebirth makes a new year special. Your dreams, desires, and intentions make a new year special. The collective and heightened energy of new beginnings and letting go of old things is what makes a new year special. You are what’s special. You are what matters. What you do with all this energy is what makes the new year special. The ‘NEWNESS’ of a new year has to come from you and it gets to be as special, motivating, and inspirational as you decide to let it be!

With the new year, comes a sense of momentum and that momentum is born out of the belief that we get to start again. We get to let go of the excuses, the pain, the experiences that were holding us back and move forward. We get to recommit to what we want. We get to celebrate what was while going after what is. The problem a lot of us face is that this momentum is fleeting. It’s heightened for the first few days, maybe if we are lucky the first few weeks, of the new year and then things start to feel old again. We go back to what is usual. Celebration dies off and life starts to resemble whatever our normal is.

Here are 4 things you can do to keep the momentum flowing.

1. Write down your big goals for the year and then break them up into smaller milestones. This will help you stay consistent. When something feels too overwhelming it’s easy for us to make excuses. Make things as easy and as achievable as you can for yourself.

2. Celebrate the little things. We seem to believe that celebration should only be saved for the big achievements. We celebrate the end of the year in a huge way but it hardly ever do that for the end of a week. Celebrations don’t have to be lavish, simply make them intentional. Celebrate the life you have and you are going to want to live more of it!

3. Let go of the things you cannot change. If you are stuck focusing on things out of your control it because very hard to move forward. Momentum flows best when you are open t receiving all the possibilities.

4. Prioritize your mental and physical health. It’s hard to stay focused and consistent on working towards your dreams if you are burnout and exhausted. Prioritising your mental and physical health is a necessity to a full life. You cannot do and be everything you desire if you aren’t feeling well.

The start of the year is exciting and refreshing. You don’t need to feel this way all the time but it’s important to give yourself time to reset throughout the year. At any point during the year if you feel overwhelmed or stuck come back to the feelings of the new year. Come back to the momentum and energy that we can so easily feel at the start and remember that that is yours to recreate at any time.
