The number of Covid-19 cases in the Sultanate of Oman is expected to increase substantially in the coming days, said a senior health expert.
Number analysis confirms an increase in Covid-19 infections during the coming period, Dr Amal bint Saif al Maani, Director of the Department of Prevention and Infection Control at the Ministry of Health, said in an interview.
She said that the Omicron is prevalent in the country and has the potential to form heart clots, especially in those who have not taken the third or booster dose. “These include children below 12 years of age as they have not yet been vaccinated.
The doctor said the positive rate for Omicron has increased to 25 out of every 100 tests conducted in some governorates.
“The booster dose will help reduce the complications and hospitalisation by 80 per cent. Everyone, especially those who suffer from chronic diseases and are over the age of 60, must take to take the vaccine.”
It may be noted that the country reported nearly 8,000 cases (7,934) last week, including six deaths.
The number of patients in the hospital went up from 88, including 11 in ICUs, at the start of the week to 125, including 12 in ICUs.
The recovery rate also dropped to 95.5 per cent during the same period.
