Muscat: Represented by the Ministry of Health, the Sultanate of Oman is taking part in meetings of the 150th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) being held in Switzerland from 24 to 29 January 2022.
In addition to health ministers, the event saw a large turnout of high-level officials from different countries of the world.
The Sultanate of Oman is represented by Dr Ahmed Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Health, while the Ministry’s undersecretaries and top officials are joining the meeting via videoconferencing.
The meeting began with the endorsement of the agenda of the WHO and a speech by its Director General, followed by a review of the outcomes of the second extraordinary session of the International Health Society aimed to hammer out an international accord for consolidating the WHO’s readiness to tackle pandemics.
It is hoped that the meeting will approve a proposal by the Sultanate of Oman and Switzerland on the Global Health Initiative and discuss Oman’s proposal to devise a comprehensive strategy for combating contagious diseases.
Other topics on the agenda include the enhancement of WHO’s financial resources and the discussion of WHO task team’s report on mobility to address Covid-19. –ONA
