Muscat: The Capital Market Authority (CMA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) announced the selection of the latter’s Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code for the Dhamani health insurance platform aimed to support health data exchange, claims settlement and fund transfer between insurance companies, health organisations, and supervisory and regulatory institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.
In line with the country’s Vision 2040 goals to create an inclusive and equitable healthcare system, the CPT code set will help serve the needs of the Sultanate of Oman’s data-driven healthcare system by allowing clinicians, hospitals, health insurers, regulators, and researchers to electronically exchange standardized information on the medical services and procedures provided to patients within the Dhamani platform. This seamless flow of information across the Omani healthcare system facilitates reimbursements, reporting, predictive analysis and benchmarking of medical services delivered by all medical specialties, which will enable better patient care, more operational efficiency, and lower costs.
CPT content is a comprehensive medical terminology with a standardized code set that identifies and describes over 10,000 medical services and procedures, offering physicians and health care professionals a uniform language for coding medical services and procedures. The uniform language, updated by the AMA to keep pace with modern medicine, streamlines reporting and increases accuracy and efficiency in the management of the insurance claims process.
For more than 50 years, CPT content has standardized procedural medical language used to communicate between governments, health care providers, and insurance organizations around the globe and throughout the Gulf Region.
Shaikh Abdullah bin Salem al Salmi, Executive President of the CMA, said: “Aligning with Oman’s National Vision 2040, the Dhamani health insurance program will promote an efficient, high quality health insurance ecosystem which provides proper funding of the healthcare industry in Oman in efforts to facilitate a decent and sustainable life for all, as we prioritize the well-being and social protection of the people across the Sultanate,” He added. “The adoption of AMA’s internationally-recognized CPT standards will increase the accuracy and efficiency of medical services in Sultanate of Oman and enhance the Dhamani platform performance.”
