Muscat: Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary expressed his country’s appreciation for the approach espoused by Oman’s foreign policy under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
He affirmed that this policy is based on sticking to traditions, heritage and values.
This came during the joint press conference held at the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday between Sayyid Badr Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister and Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.
The guest hailed efforts of the Sultanate of Oman in easing tensions and its endeavours to establish peace in the region.
He affirmed that European countries accord an importance to stability of this region, which reflects positively on Europe in general.
The Hungarian minister pointed out that the backbone of the bilateral economic relations between the two countries represented in the strategic cooperation between MOL Hungary, one of the leading Hungarian companies in the oil and gas industry, and Oman Oil Marketing Company.
He hoped that the relations in energy field would witness a stage of further innovation during the upcoming period.
He also added that an agreement was signed to the tune of €10 million (supported by the Hungarian government) to construct solar power plant in the Sultanate of Oman.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister further said that EXIM Bank in Hungary has launched a line of credit to the tune of USD56 million to support business cooperation between the two countries within the context of the agreement for the encouragement and protection of mutual investments signed here today.
On his turn, Sayyid Badr Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister commended the outcomes of the talks session held here today with Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.
The talks covered areas of cooperation and investment partnership between the two countries particularly in oil and gas sectors, renewable energy, development of trade, tourism relations, mutual investments, aviation and logistics sectors, which are all promising for further growth in the future.
Sayyid Badr said, “We share identical views during the talks towards several regional and international issues of common concern.
We also share same perceptions towards the challenges we are dealing with in this interconnected world”.
He also pointed out that the visit of the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade demonstrates the strength and growth of the bilateral relations.
He hoped that that he would visit Hungary in the near future to reciprocate enhancing avenues of joint cooperation.
Sayyid Badr added that the two sides agreed during the talks to activate the Omani-Hungarian Joint Committee, being led by the undersecretaries of the foreign ministries of the two countries.
He hoped that this committee would play its role in exploring further investment opportunities and providing the appropriate support for the growth of the bilateral economic relations.
