Envoy plants Sri Lankan fruit sapling in Muscat

Muscat: A Sri Lankan fruit sapling called “wood apple fruit “ (Kaith fruit) was planted by the country’s Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman Ameer Ajwad at the  Directorate General of Agricultural and Animal Research, Rumais, Barka in Muscat.

The envoy planted the sapling on the occasion of the 74th Independence Day of Sri Lanka which was celebrated on 4th February 2022.

Wood apple is a Citrus fruit tree (Kaith tree) grown in Sri Lanka. It has many health and nutritional benefits.  It is rich in fibre and helps improves digestion. It is also a rich source of protein, iron, calcium, and vitamins B & C which help fortify the immune system.

Ambassador Ameer Ajwad together with his spouse Asmiya Ameer Ajwad planted the Sri Lankan fruit sapling in the presence of Director of Date Palm and Plant Production Centre of Oman Dr. Saif bin Ali Al-khamisi, Head of the West Asia Department of the Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Shanfari and the officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman.   First Secretary of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Muscat Dilini Abeysekara was also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad said that Sri Lanka and Oman have huge potential in agriculture cooperation and that he looked forward to work for further enhancement of this cooperation between the two countries in the days ahead.

He also extended his sincere appreciation to the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman for making special arrangements to plant the Sri Lankan fruit sapling in the Directorate General of Agricultural and Animal Research of Oman to mark the 74th anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence.
