Sur Public Park to be self-sustaining enterprise

Afrah al Balushi

A grand public park planned in Sur in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate with funding support from Oman LNG will be a self-sustaining enterprise, providing business and investment opportunities for local Omani entrepreneurs while also enhancing Sur’s tourism appeal.

Oman LNG announced on Sunday funding support to the tune of RO 3 million for the second phase of the park’s development in collaboration with the South Al Sharqiyah governor’s office.

The second phase of the park builds on previous support in which Oman LNG had funded detailed consultancy services for the design phase of the park, taking into consideration a number of important factors to accommodate all community needs, while reflecting company’s environmental efforts. It is set to be a public facility, attracting residents and visitors.

Dr Yahya Badr al Ma’awali, Governor of South Al Sharqiyah, said: “It gives us a great pleasure to continue the exceptional relationship and collaboration with Oman LNG, through supporting various social responsibility programmes and projects. Sur Public Park is an additional vital project and comes as a testimony to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s call to enhance and develop services across the governorates of Oman. Additionally, such project will accommodate many benefits from social, economic and touristic spectrums that will offer to people and tourists.”

The project aims to offer tourism and investment opportunities that will be for recreational purposes for people in Sur and the wider South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. It will also help raise awareness of environmental protection.

Hamed Mohammed al Naamani, CEO of Oman LNG, said, “We feel privileged to pursue this project that will provide many opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to invest and grow new businesses for recreation. It is, by all means, an environment-friendly project that comes to raise awareness of nature-based carbon offset and enhance the touristic infrastructure in South Al Sharqiyah.”
