Muscat: The Minister of Labour, Professor Mahad Bin Said Bin Ali Baawain, said on Thursday that the ministry is aiming to provide 35,000 job opportunities through recruitment, replacement, training for the citizens this year.
The Minister was addressing the media during the Ministry of Labour’s annual virtual press conference to review its achievements over the last year,2021 and plans for the current year, 2022.
The number of those appointed to the private sector during 2021 reached 49,276, of whom 42,609 were appointed with work contracts and 6,667 were appointed through work contracts resulting from training associated with employment.
The number of expatriate workers who left the country during 2021 reached 58,720, as the government seeks to correct the conditions of the violating workers.
The number of jobs announced in the government sector is 19,097, including 12,669 through replacement and direct employment, and 6,428 employment opportunities from training and qualification.
The minister indicated that the number of beneficiaries of training programs associated with employment and on-the-job training in various sectors amounted to 9,859 beneficiaries during the past year
247 trainees have been graduated through the “Etimad” program, which aims to empower and train Omanis working in the private sector and raise the level of their leadership and supervisory skills to obtain senior jobs.
“There are 57 government institutions that implement the individual and institutional performance system “Ejada “, and more than 140,000 employees have received direct training in building career plans in the system,” said the Minister.
10,995 total beneficiaries of the Job Security System and North Al Batinah occupies the highest percentage.
The Ministry, through its digital transformation plan, worked on electronic linking with 30 government agencies, including 16 provider and beneficiary agencies, 9 beneficiary agencies and 5 provider agencies.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor said that the minimum wage review will be presented to the relevant authorities.
The Ministry is working on laws and legislation regulating the labor market in accordance with professional standards and a stimulating work environment that keeps pace with changes. It is also working on ministerial decisions regulating the labor market and supporting the replacement and settlement policy.
The Ministry seeks to provide high quality electronic services that meet the needs of the beneficiaries of the services it provides, including working on completing the development of the work permit system to raise the level of readiness of the system to include all parties and integration with other systems.
